Marching toward Madness, Kentucky's revival a thing of (Pulp) Fiction

Presented by Epson

Kentucky won again late Wednesday night.

That's five in a row.

That's nine of the past 10.

Don't look, but Kentucky is running through the SEC toward the tourney. (US Presswire)

And I sure am glad I got those Wildcat jokes out of the way in December, you know, back before the attention of the entire sports world had turned towards college basketball. Because if you would have all been paying attention back then and read all the over-the-top stuff I wrote, you'd now be flooding me with e-mails explaining how I oversimplified everything and ruled out Kentucky's postseason aspirations way too early.

Mostly, you'd just be telling me I was wrong.

And you know what?

You'd be right.

I was wrong.

Because with Wednesday's 58-54 victory over Ole Miss it's no longer wise to dismiss the Wildcats. They are 16-10 overall, 10-3 in the SEC. And if they upset Tennessee at Thompson-Boling Arena this weekend they'll be atop the SEC standings by way of a tiebreaker with just two regular season games remaining.

Did you get that?

Kentucky is one win away from leading the SEC.

And if the Wildcats get that win Sunday they'll be in every Projecting the Field you can find come Monday morning, further on their way to the greatest comeback since John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Think about it: Travolta went from chatting with a baby in Look Who's Talking to shooting Marvin in the face in Pulp Fiction. Similarly, Billy Gillispie has gone from coaching babies in December to shooting all his detractors the middle finger in February, and if you'll stick with the analogy I'll take it a step farther.

Remember when Mia Wallace overdosed in Pulp Fiction and Vincent Vega had to give her that adrenaline shot?
