America East: Top-seeded UMBC ousts Stony Brook in quarters

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Darryl Proctor scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Cavell Johnson came off the bench with 15 points Saturday to lift top-seeded Maryland-Baltimore County to a 76-60 victory over Stony Brook in the first quarterfinal game of the America East Tournament.

UMBC, which had 23 assists on 30 baskets, has won 10 of its last 11 games.

Senior Ricky Lucas scored 18 points for the second straight game for Stony Brook, which advanced to the quarterfinals with an overtime win over Maine in Friday night's play-in game. The eighth-seeded Seawolves finished the season with a 7-23 record.

UMBC was 9-for-14 from 3-point range in the first 17 minutes to take control of the game. Full story

Vermont 75, Binghamton 67

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Marqus Blakely scored 18 points, seven of them in the final 4:58, to lead fourth-seeded Vermont to a win over No. 5 Binghamton.

The Catamounts, who won four of their last five games, will face top-seeded UMBC in the first of Sunday's two semifinal games.

Blakely, pressured throughout the game by intense physical pressure from the Bobcats, delivered when it counted and finished with nine rebounds, six blocked shots and three assists as Vermont (16-14) beat Binghamton (14-16) for the third time in as many tries this season.

Hartford 68, New Hampshire 65

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Joe Zeglinski scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and snapped 62-62 tie with 53.5 seconds remaining, helping Hartford hang on for a win over New Hampshire.

No. 7 New Hampshire (9-20) rallied from a seven-point deficit in the final 3:17 to tie the game before Zeglinski delivered a tough jumper from the lane.

Zeglinski, who was just 3-of-11 from the field when he came through with his big basket, made 12-of-12 from the foul line in the game.

Boston University 68, Albany, N.Y. 64 (OT)

Carlos Strong came off the bench with 17 points, helping the sixth-seeded Terriers past the Great Danes.

Albany's John Iati forced overtime with a long 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds left in regulation. Corey Lowe then opened the overtime with two straight baskets and the Terriers (14-16) never trailed in the extra session.

The Great Danes (15-15) went 9-for-13 from the field to start the game but scored only six field goals over the final 32:23. They were kept alive on the foul line, going 28-for-39 as Boston was whistled for 31 fouls.

Strong hit a short jumper to make it 64-60 with 58.7 seconds left in overtime and then stuffed an attempt by Josh Martin the final seconds.
