Gettin' In: Only in March does such madness make sense

Projecting: Field | Seeds

NEW YORK -- This is why college basketball's postseason can't be matched. Because what you think you know Wednesday can be turned upside down by Saturday night thanks to stories developing that are so farfetched, they ought to be given to the writers of Lost for consideration.

I mean, seriously, what's crazier than what's happening in Atlanta?

A tornado ripped through the city Friday and damaged the Georgia Dome so badly that the SEC tournament had to be postponed and moved to Georgia Tech, where Georgia and Kentucky tipped off Saturday morning in front of family, cheerleaders, university officials, media members and pretty much nobody else.

The Bulldogs won that quarterfinal matchup in overtime on an unlikely 3-pointer, then celebrated for a few hours before returning to the court to play Mississippi State in the SEC semifinals.

Yep, Georgia had to play twice Saturday.

It was like an AAU tournament.

Minus the agents.

And if you thought fatigue might be a problem you thought incorrectly, because the Bulldogs spent the second part of their day-night doubleheader running up and down the court against Mississippi State, and gosh almighty they won that game too.

So now the stage is set, and it really is crazy. The worst team in the SEC is just a Sunday win over Arkansas -- a team the Bulldogs have already beaten once, by the way -- from earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and if Dennis Felton hasn't saved his job this weekend then the guy simply had no chance with an administration that placed him in a tough spot.

Anyway, man, what a story!

And here's your final edition of Gettin' In.

Best game from Saturday: I named Michael Beasley the CBSSports.com National Player of the Year last week, and I'm not changing now. But those of you who believed I snubbed Tyler Hansbrough are probably sitting around and smiling, aren't you? Simply put, Hansbrough was tremendous in the ACC semifinals, finishing with 26 points and nine rebounds while leading North Carolina to a 68-66 victory over Virginia Tech. And he sank the game winner. Did I mention that? The always-around-the-ball junior grabbed a miss and made a jumper with 0.8 second remaining like he was Blake Hoffarber or something, and now he'll try to beat Clemson for the third time this season while securing a No. 1 for the Tar Heels.
