Ex-Dukie James joins Coach K's staff as assistant

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski hired former player Nate James as an assistant on Tuesday.

James led the Blue Devils to their most recent national championship in 2001. He played on two Final Four teams, scoring 1,116 points from 1996-2001 on Duke teams that finished 71-9.

He was in charge of Duke's program operations at the new practice facility.

Also, Krzyzewski promoted assistants Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins to associate head coaches.

Longtime assistant Johnny Dawkins left Duke last week to take the head coaching job at Stanford.
