'What's yours is mine' is recruiting motto once coaching carousel cranks up

Is Emmanuel Negedu on the market?

No.

Not yet, at least.

But given the uncertainty at Arizona -- including assistant Josh Pastner's recent move to Memphis -- the perception in basketball circles is that it's worth reaching out through various channels to see whether Negedu might be interested in switching allegiances. Consequently, multiple coaching staffs are positioning themselves to sweep up the Class of 2008 star if he ultimately asks for a release from Arizona and is granted that release by Lute Olson.

"Jason Smith, his high school coach at Brewster Academy, has fielded the most calls," said Mark Adams, Negedu's former AAU coach with Indiana Elite. "But there have been a few calls for me, too."

Of course there have.

After all, this is the new approach to recruiting.

Didn't get a good point guard early?

Don't sweat it.

Didn't get a good post player early?

Don't sweat it.

Because come February or March or even April, there are going to be coaching changes. Happens every year. And when the changes happen -- even if it's only an assistant who recruited a prospect that is moving -- the free-for-all begins as staffs start relentlessly pursuing prospects long committed to the schools enduring the transitional phases, and who cares if those prospects signed national letters of intent back in November?

That's so last year.
