BC senior point guard Rice to miss one game for violating team rules

BOSTON -- Boston College senior point guard Tyrese Rice, the Atlantic Coast Conference's second-leading scorer last season, was suspended for the season opener against Central Connecticut for violating team rules.

The school announced the suspension before tip-off Friday, and said Rice would return for its next game, against Loyola (Md.) in the preseason NIT first round.

He has averaged 21.0 points per game, with five assists and 1.6 steals.

Rice, who started all 30 games last season, averaged 38.1 minutes and was clearly the school's best player, earning ACC first-team honors. He scored 46 points against conference power North Carolina, nearly leading the Eagles to an upset.

He starts the year 14th on the school's scoring list with 1,542 points, 1,090 behind all-time leader Troy Bell, who played with the Eagles from 2000-03.
