ORLANDO, Fla. -- A fight over the shoes Michael Jordan's son will wear at UCF has cost the school any future sponsorship with Adidas.

"The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas," Adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso wrote in an e-mail to the Associated Press. "As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward."

Freshman guard Marcus Jordan wore a pair of white Air Jordans during UCF's 84-65 win in an exhibition game against Saint Leo on Wednesday night, the Orlando Sentinel reported on its website. Jordan has said he will only wear his father's Nike Air Jordan shoes because they hold special meaning to his family.

UCF is in the final year of a five-year contract with Adidas that requires coaches and athletes to use the company's apparel and equipment.

"We are disappointed to learn that Adidas has chosen to discontinue its relationship with UCF Athletics," the school said in a statement Wednesday night released by spokesman Joe Hornstein. "Once we receive official notice we will be able to further respond."

Give me a break. Follow the rules or go home. I don't care who his dad is. He hasn't even played yet and his ego and attitude is already massive. Some of you are all "he's Michael Jordans son!!!" ...so what. You talk about him like he's Jesus Christ. He's just another brat, using his family name, who thinks he's above the team. I didn't know stupid shoe contracts are more important than ...(more)

Adidas had a contract in place, so they are entitled to the 3 mil... But Marcus is right in this too.. You can't expect Michael Jordan's son, to wear Adidas!!!! Thats crazy on so many levels.. Yeah, Marcus is a part of the team and no one is above the team. I get that.. However, Marcus isn't just any teammate.. He's the son of the greatest basketball player ever and the son of the #1 man of the #1 ...(more)

. . . and I sure don't mean that in a good way.  Michael Jordan has always been about Michael Jordan, even down to his pathetic appearance at the Hall-of-Fame.  Jordan ushered in the "it's all about me" era of the NBA.  He's as much to blame as anyone for turning a great sport into a weaker version of the WWE, down to the officials who are, without a doubt, a joke.  Y ...(more)

Remember, we're talking about a young kid that probably gets everything his way so it isn't his fault that he has this stupid demand.  It's the fault of the university for even entertaining it.  Perhaps, I could see it if he was going to push them over the edge and go for a possible championship but that isn't going to happen.  I can't imagine how the rest of the team feels.  T ...(more)

Memo to Marcus Jordan...YOU ARE NOT THAT GOOD!  Who are you to come in and say you will only play in Jordans?  How arrogant and selfish.  First off, they are just shoes!  Secondly, If your team is sponsored by Addidas, then you WEAR ADDIDAS!  If young Jordan was so good why is he at Central Florida and why didn't your own fathers Jordan brand pick up the contract?  Th ...(more)

MJ's son has done jack squat in his life as far as basketball goes, the last time I checked UCF is not a power program, but his name is apparently bigger than a contract UCF had signed with a company. Amazing...I wonder if lil J. will refuse to play the schedule, and want to only play NC, b/c it has special meaning to his family.

Nike shoe has a lot of meaning towards the sweatshops th

All you overzealous ranters who think that Marcus Jordan is some sort of egomaniac are ridiculous. As a UCF student that was at the game that this whole snafu is about, I witnessed Jordan's "audacity" first-hand. He wore all white air jordans with no visible Nike Swoosh and had enormous Adidas ankle braces right above them so that all you could see if you payed attention to his feet was the adidas ...(more)

Like father like son.  Let me start by saying that Michael Jordan is the greatest player ever in my opinion.  He also has one of the largest egos ever.  Whether it be the reported stories of how he would rip Bulls teammates in practice, get infuriated when someone like Will Perdue could lift more than him in the weight room, or his inexplicable nasty-toned Hall Of Fame acceptance sp ...(more)

UCF made a promise to Marcus during recruiting after Adidas made a promise to UCF. UCF kept its promise, Adidas did not. Kudos to the school for stepping up.

Additionally, this ordeal has delivered more publicity to UCF Basketball in the past few weeks than the Adidas contract brought for five years.

I think adidas is ridiculous for not understanding.  Who cares?  Its MJ's freakin' son.  Not like its just some kid who has idolized #23 his whole life.  I think they should have done the smart thing and let him wear the shoes.  Nike will be more than happy to help out I'm sure.

This kid was allowed to take the floor while wearing shoes of a brand different than the team's official provider - who provided the team with as many shoes as they could possibly need, a huge number of models (including custom made shoes, if necessary), AND a cool $3M.  Worse, this kid has yet to record 1 point, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal, taken 1 charge, or even played 1 second of re ...(more)

Okay so we all know it is illegal to pay a player to accept a scholarship to come to your school (okay everyone but SoCal knows this) but is it illegal for a player to entice a school to offer them a scholarship with the intention of the school getting a better endoresement deal?  We all know this kid is only on the team because of his name and didn't really have any other offers to play on a ...(more)

In that entire Article that was brilliantly written (yeah ok) the one thing that was FAILED to be mention.

BEFORE Marcus Jordan signed with UCF the school AGREED that if he signed he would be ALLOWED to wear his father's shoes.

So where is Marcus Jordan at fault at? He stated he wanted to make sure he could wear his father's shoes and the school said O

Within 2 days, Nike will ink a deal that is larger than the adidas deal. This is great marketing for Nike and adidas is simply serving up the alley-oops pass.
