Top 25 roundup: Notre Dame rebounds, beats Saint Louis in Chicago

CHICAGO -- Luke Harangody scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, and No. 23 Notre Dame bounced back from a poor outing to beat Saint Louis 64-52 Saturday for third place in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

The Irish (6-1), 14-point losers to Northwestern on Friday night, also got 14 points from Ben Hansbrough, who'd managed only four on 1-for-10 shooting a night earlier.

Harangody is now two points shy of becoming the seventh 2,000-point scorer in Irish history.

Willie Reed led Saint Louis (4-2) with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Harandogy connected on his first 3-point attempt of the game to start the second half -- he'd been 0 for 6 from long range Friday night. He then took a pass on the break and made a nice spin in the lane before hitting a layup as the Irish quickly expanded a three-point halftime lead to eight just over a minute into the half.

Saint Louis got to within one when Kwamain Mitchell hit three straight baskets, but Harangody hit two of his own and Tim Abromaitis dropped in four free throws -- two after a technical on Mitchell -- to put Notre Dame up nine.

Harandogy picked up his fourth foul with 5:43 left and the Irish up by seven. Mitchell then hit a 3-pointer to pull the Billikens within four. Full story

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jon Diebler hit five 3-pointers to get No. 17 Ohio State off to a fast start, and the Buckeyes coasted to a victory over St. Francis (Pa).

Diebler scored 15 of his 17 points during the quick start, Evan Turner had 16 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists, and center Dallas Lauderdale had one of his most dominant games at Ohio State (5-1). He flirted with career highs in points (11), rebounds (6) and blocked shots (6).

In addition, Jeremie Simmons came off the bench to score 18 points, William Buford chipped in 15 points and P.J. Hill had 10.

Cedric Latimer had 16 points for the offensively challenged Red Flash (1-5), who had scored 72 points in a 23-point loss at Notre Dame on Nov. 16. Devin Sweetney added 10.

No. 25 Oklahoma 81, Nicholls State 60

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Cade Davis scored 18 points and No. 25 Oklahoma ended a three-game skid with a victory over winless Nicholls State in the fifth place game of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Tiny Gallon added 15 points for the Sooners (3-3), while, Tony Crocker and Steven Pledger scored 14 apiece and Tommy Mason-Griffin finished with 10.

Gallon also had 12 rebounds for Oklahoma, which avoided its four straight loss this week. The Sooners fell to Virginia Commonwealth last Saturday, then dropped Great Alaska Shootout games to San Diego and Houston.

Dominic Friend and Fred Hunter had 14 each to pace the Colonels (0-8). Anatoly Bose added 12.
