Red Storm's Mason to miss three more weeks

NEW YORK -- St. John's redshirt senior Anthony Mason Jr. will miss three more weeks as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Red Storm coach Norm Roberts said Wednesday that an ultrasound scan taken Monday revealed the hamstring, which Mason injured in September and re-aggravated on Oct. 16, is not yet fully healed.

After re-injuring the hamstring in October, it was recommended that Mason spend four to six weeks of rehabilitation and strengthening exercises.

An all-Big East honorable mention selection as a junior in 2007-08, Mason scored a team-best 14.0 points per game. He matched that average over the first three games of 2008-09 before a tendon injury in his right foot ended his season.

The school said it will apply for a medical redshirt for sophomore guard Quincy Roberts, who has been suffering from recurring migraine headaches this fall. Roberts has played in four games this season, well under the 30 percent or less mandated by the NCAA in applying for a medical redshirt.
