Leibovitz abruptly resigns as Hartford's coach
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Hartford coach Dan Leibovitz has resigned after four seasons on the job.
School spokesman Daniel Ruede on Tuesday said Leibovitz submited a letter at 5 p.m. saying he was leaving with four years in his contract.
Ruede said it was not immediately clear why Leibovitz resigned after the school extended his contract in 2008. But ESPN reports that he is expected to go back to his alma mater, Penn, where he would be the top assistant for Jerome Allen.
Leibovtiz was 44-82 in four seasons at Hartford. Three players earned spots in the record books under his leadership, including Joe Zeglinski who became the all-time leading 3 point shooter as a junior in 2009-10.
A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
