Hate Mail: All Syracuse fans aren't idiots, just these ones

Updated Dec. 1

This isn't Syracuse Hate Mail. These idiots don't accurately represent an entire school, alumni base or city.

God, I hope not ...

From: John Lauer

In another life I was general manager of WGST news radio in Atlanta. If you had aired this Jim Boeheim column on my station, I would have fired you immediately.

I'd never work for a silly homer like you. You went to Syracuse -- looked you up, John -- which means you're not speaking as a general manager of a radio station. You're not speaking with your brain at all. You're talking out of your ass.

From: CuseFan Michael

I think your post about Boeheim is incredibly bleeding-heart.

Guilty as charged. My heart bleeds for potential victims of sexual abuse, especially when they've been bullied publically by a man as powerful as Jim Boeheim. So ... thank you.

From: Andrew Pappas

Lose his job? Get real. Look at your fellow media, ESPN and the Post Standard, who sat on that Laurie Fine tape for years.

Sitting on that tape was morally bankrupt by ESPN and the Post-Standard. Boeheim's statements, painting potential victims as lying extortionists, were also morally bankrupt. One bankruptcy doesn't excuse the other. Keep up.

From: Daniel

Thank you for recognizing the intimidation and insensitivity displayed by Jim Boeheim, and for understanding the detrimental effect his words could have on sex abuse victims. I myself was abused by a Catholic priest as a kid and was forced into 20 years of silence because I was terrified to make such an accusation against a powerful, popular man. Boeheim's words are exactly the kind that keep light out of a dark place, and allow abuse to continue unabated. Thanks for sticking up for the kid in me, and for thousands of scared kids out there right now who want and need help -- but who are intimidated into silence by bullies like Jim Boeheim.

Thank you for writing me, Daniel. I'm sorry for what happened to you. And I'm sorry you're surrounded -- both in the world, and in this story -- by people who just don't get it.

From: Dennis Romano

You are a complete moron! I read the first four lines of the Boeheim article and immediately thought, "Is this dude serious?" You are a despicable human being.

Wrong. Boeheim is despicable. And you're a lemming. Questions?

From: Phil Falise

your nuts

No capital letter. No period. And it's "you're" -- not "your." That's three errors in a two-word sentence, for a slugging percentage of negative-1500. your ruthian

From: Jim Clary

Your an idiot

Three words, two mistakes. Improvement.

From: Jay P. Mast

Doyel you have always been a 'Cuse hater u piece of s--t, you need to keep your 'Cuse-hating remarks to yourself. You should come to Syracuse and see how many people here think you're a piece of s--t and get a little deserved ass-beating

You know what I look like, Jay P. Mast. I don't know (or care) what you look like. But I'll be in Syracuse someday. Introduce yourself.

From: Ken Light

How could you say Boeheim should be fired when he obviously had no idea this was going on? Don't drag his name through the mud because others make mistakes.

It's almost like you didn't read a single word I wrote. In fact, I'm willing to bet you didn't. Either that, or you have the reading comprehension of a 6-year-old. Write me back, Ken, and tell me which it is. At this point, I'm kind of curious.

From: Steve Miller

I have witnessed your true redneck mentality. How CBSSports.com had the stupidity to hire you is a slap to journalism. I'm a UVA alum. To blow someone up for trying to stand by a friend indicates to me that you're not the one I want in a foxhole with me. Look in the mirror and see what UNEDUCATED looks like.

Look, everyone -- Steve went to Virginia!

From: Shawn

Of course you want Boeheim fired. Only way your Gators will take down 'Cuse this week.

Look, everyone -- Shawn's an idiot!

From: Jack Thompson

As someone who practiced law for 32 years and who has represented victims of sexual abuse, I wish to thank you. What Boeheim did is reprehensible and indeed should cost him his job.

Especially before the 'Cuse plays my Gators! Good grief ...

From: Todd Tirdell, PSU alum '97

Just curious Gregg ... do men whose hair begins to recede then shave their heads and grow a goatee in an attempt to cover the embarrassment of losing said hair?

Gee Todd, I don't know. Do people email seventh-grade insults and sign their name with their alumni status in an attempt to cover the embarrassment of having a last name that sounds like ... yours?

From: Sean Fosdick

Must be the under-30 crowd. "Get rid of Boeheim, he's not being politically correct!" Stop being so brain-washed in your comments.

Your name is an anagram for "Sean Fosdick."

From: Melissa Hyde

Just because Boeheim made an insensitive comment doesn't mean he needs to be fired. Boeheim apologized so get over it!

Some comments are so insensitive that it's not enough to apologize. It's a start, but it's not enough. What would be enough? Dismissal.

From: Robert

Shut up about firing Boeheim -- he isn't Paterno. Not even close.

So in your world-view, a coach can be fired for what Paterno did -- but only for what Paterno did. Impeccable logic.

From: Richard Helm

You're abusive in your Hate Mail. You foster and perpetuate hate. You should be fired.

Well my goodness, you gentle little creature. Maybe you should stick to Harlequin Romance novels.

From: Joelle Casteix, Western Regional Director SNAP, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

I want to personally thank you for your article on Boeheim. Your total understanding of the horror of Boeheim's statements about the victims was well explained and VERY appreciated.

Keep fighting the good fight, Ms. Casteix. And thank you.
