MIAMI -- Richard Pitino's contract with Florida International lasts for six years, one more than the sides originally agreed to when he took over as men's basketball coach last month.

Pitino's contract was "amended and restated" on April 24, about a week after the Panthers hired him to replace Isiah Thomas. Pitino's base salary of $250,000 annually remains unchanged.

Pitino would be entitled to up to another $40,000 annually based on academic performance by the team, as well as $10,000 bonuses for leading FIU to the NCAA tournament; winning conference coach of the year; winning regular-season league championships; and each NCAA tournament victory. He would also get $100,000 for a Final Four appearance and $250,000 for winning the national championship.

His contract extends through April 15, 2018.
