Position rankings: Top 10 power forwards

Presented by Epson

Doyel's rankings: PG | SG | SF | PF | C | Coaches

Here's one problem with ranking players as good as these: Their supporting casts vary from excellent to awful, obscuring just how good some of these guys are -- and possibly, just how good they are not.

That's why Ike Diogu and Ryan Gomes are atop this list -- not because their scoring and rebounding numbers are the highest, but because they have achieved those numbers despite being the focus of every defense they've faced.

As good as they may be -- and are -- Wayne Simien, Hakim Warrick and Craig Smith can't say the same thing. Simien played last season with All-Americans Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison, Warrick played with All-American Carmelo Anthony, and Smith played with Troy Bell, No. 2 all-time in scoring in the Big East.

Hinrich, Collison, Anthony and Bell are gone. Simien, Warrick and Smith are not. So let's see what you got, fellas.

Rank Player School Class PPG/RPG Skinny
1 Ike Diogu Arizona State So. 19.0/7.8 NBA-ready right now
2 Ryan Gomes Providence Jr. 18.4/9.7 Most underrated player in America
3 Wayne Simien Kansas Jr. 14.8/8.2 Could be a 20-and-10 guy
4 Hakim Warrick Syracuse Jr. 14.8/8.5 Only a jumper away from stardom
5 Craig Smith Boston College So. 19.9/7.9 Great touch for a huge body
6 Lawrence Roberts Mississippi State Jr. 15.2/10.4 Baylor refugee is really, really good
7 Charles Gaines Southern Miss Sr. 15.1/9.6 Pssst ... pass it on down
8 Amit Tamir California Sr. 14.9/6.5 Best shooter on this list
9 Matt Freije Vanderbilt Sr. 17.9/4.4 Great player on low-profile team
10 Andrew Bogut Utah Fr. Australia Never seen him, but scouts say: Wow
