HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) _ Guard Craig Benson scored 15 of a career-high 22 points in the second half as the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team defeated Concordia (N.Y.) College 84-60.
Quinnipiac (1-1) used a 16-4 run midway through the second half to put the game out of reach.
After a layup by Andre Fishinden trimmed Quinnipiac's lead to 58-52, the hosts took control of the game.
C.J. Vick started the run with a traditional three-point play. Kevin Jolley knocked down two free throws before Concordia (0-1) made one free throw to get within 63-53.
Benson added the next five points with a layup and a three-pointer before Vick pushed the lead to 17 with another layup.
The Bobcats shot 62.5 percent (15-for-24) from the field in the second half and were 18-for-22 from the line in the stanza.
Quinnipiac started strong out of the gate and led by as many 15 in the half. But Concordia scored 15 of the final 22 points of the stanza to get within seven at halftime, 32-25.
Benson finished with 22 points on 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line. Vick scored 21 points for Quinnipiac, while Jolley had his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Rob Monroe handed out 11 assists and scored eight points.
