BOONE, N.C. (AP) D.J. Thompson scored 20 points to lead Appalachian State in an 84-74 win against S.C.-Upstate on Monday night.
Noah Brown added 18 points for the Mountaineers (4-2), while reserve Demetrius Scott had 15 points in just 16 minutes of action. Herbert Jones scored 10 points and led Appalachian State with eight rebounds.
Erikas Kaupaitis had 18 points and seven rebounds for S.C.-Upstate, while C.J. Paul chipped in 15 points, seven assists and six steals. Charleston Long scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Appalachian State bench outscored the S.C.-Upstate reserves 42-9, with reserves Scott, Jones and Jeremy Clayton scoring in double figures.
The Mountaineers hit 11 of 18 3-point attempts, led by Thompson's 4-for-4 effort.
