RENO, Nev. (AP) Omar Thomas scored 28 points and UTEP rallied after blowing a 24-point first-half lead to beat Nevada 83-80 in overtime on Wednesday night for its 10th straight win.
Filiberto Rivera added 23 points for the Miners (14-2, 4-0 Western Athletic Conference), including a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left to force overtime.
Nick Fazekas scored 29 points to lead Nevada (11-4, 4-1) and Mo Charlo added 19 as the Wolf Pack had their seven-game winning streak snapped.
The teams tied for the WAC regular season crown last year but Nevada beat UTEP 66-60 in the WAC tournament championship game last season.
Nevada had two chances to tie the game in the closing seconds but Fazekas and Seth Taylor both missed 3-pointers.
The Miners were 8-of-11 from the floor in the first eight minutes of the game as they opened a 21-4 lead. Rivera's bucket with 4:50 left in the first half gave UTEP a 39-15 lead.
But Nevada closed the first half with a 15-0 run and had a 28-3 run spanning halftime that gave the Pack their first lead of the game, 43-42. Over the final 17 minutes of regulation and overtime, there were 18 lead changes and five ties.
