Austin Peay 71, Samford 60

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Anthony Davis scored 19 points to lead Austin Peay to a 71-60 victory over Samford on Tuesday night in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

The Governors (12-8) advanced to the semifinals, where they will face top-seeded Tennessee Tech (18-10) on Friday in Nashville, Tenn..

Maurice Hampton added 18 points for the Governors, while Zac Schlader had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Governors led 32-28 at halftime, but Samford (15-13) took the lead three times in the second half. They pulled ahead on a 3-pointer by Maurice Hampton with 4:28 left and never trailed again, taking their biggest lead of 14 points with 20 seconds to play.

Merritt led Samford with 19 points, while Randall Gulina added 13 and Bryan Boerjan 11.

Austin Peay shot 50 percent from the field and Samford shot 45.2 percent.
