Report: Jack leaving Georgia Tech early for NBA Draft

ATLANTA -- With a trio of top-ranked point guards already declaring early for the NBA Draft, Georgia Tech's Jarrett Jack apparently will follow.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday that Jack will make himself eligible for the draft next week but will not immediately hire an agent.

The 6-foot-3 junior, who could be a late first-round pick, has until May 15 to declare.

Since underclassmen began announcing their eligibility for the NBA Draft nearly a month ago, high-profile point guards Raymond Felton of North Carolina, Wake Forest's Chris Paul and Illinois' Deron Williams have decided to leave school early.

While the other three have basically cut their ties to their respective schools, Jack will be able to return to the Yellow Jackets by June 21 if he does not hire an agent.

"It's basically a win-win situation," Jack told the newspaper earlier in the month. "If I decide to go pro or if I decide to come back (to school), it's still going to be a positive for me."

Jack, who led the Yellow Jackets to the national championship game in 2004, averaged 15.5 points as Georgia Tech overcame both struggles and injuries to post a 20-12 mark with an NCAA Tournament berth this past season.

Jack established career highs in both shooting percentage from the floor and 3-point range, connecting on 51.4 percent overall and 44.2 percent from the arc.

Georgia Tech, which returned nearly its entire team intact following its Final Four appearance in 2004, lost five seniors this season and will be one of the youngest teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference even if Jack decides to stay in school.
