AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State basketball coach Wayne Morgan was released from the hospital Tuesday after undergoing throat surgery for a condition known as sleep apnea.
"I am very happy to be home from the hospital and looking forward to getting back to work," Morgan said in a statement released by the university.
Morgan had the surgery at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. In his statement, Morgan said he would gradually work himself back to a full-time schedule over the next four weeks.
People with sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, a condition usually caused by a blockage of the airway. The condition afflicts more than 12 million people in the United States, according to the National Institutes of Health.
The 54-year-old Morgan is 39-25 in two seasons at Iowa State. The Cyclones reached the semifinals of the NIT in his first season and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament this past season.
