Weber bags beauty of a recruit for Class of '07

Illinois coach Bruce Weber, whose recruiting ability has been the subject of much consternation among Illini fans (and media), bagged his first big-time recruit this weekend when Eric Gordon of Indianapolis committed.

Gordon, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, is considered among the top 10 players in the class of 2007. His commitment, which was reported Monday by the Indianapolis Star and Scout.com, gives Weber his first likely McDonald's All-American and comes shortly after Illinois failed to secure commitments from the best high school seniors in the state. Sherron Collins is going to Kansas, and Jon Scheyer to Duke.

Gordon chose Illinois over Duke and Notre Dame.

Now Weber can turn his full attention to another elite guard from the class of 2007, 6-2 Derrick Rose of Chicago, whose list also includes Kansas, Marquette, DePaul and Virginia.
