Projecting the Field: No time to fool around

  •

Updated Feb. 20

There's too much competition for No. 1 seeds for Texas to do something stupid like that 81-60 loss Sunday to Oklahoma State. With Villanova beating Georgetown, Connecticut beating West Virginia, and Duke and Memphis doing their thing ... Texas becomes the top No. 2 seed.

It could be worse. Texas could be Indiana. After losing last week at Penn State and Illinois -- that's seven losses in eight games -- the Hoosiers dropped out of CBS SportsLine.com's projection of the 2006 NCAA Tournament field. So did Stanford, whose home loss to Arizona was the Cardinal's third defeat in four games.

With Stanford and Indiana out, Cincinnati and Utah State are back in. And that, people, is called "burying the lead."
