NEW YORK -- The Big East and CBS Sports agreed Tuesday to a multiyear contract extension to broadcast conference basketball games through the 2012-13 season.
An average of 14 Big East games will be shown, beginning with the 2007-08 season. Women's games also will be featured.
"The exposure provided to the Big East is vitally important to our basketball programs," said Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese.
In 2005, the Big East expanded to 16 schools, becoming the largest Division I-A conference in the nation. Member schools include Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, St. John's, Seton Hall, South Florida, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.
"This agreement assures that Big East basketball will remain a central component of CBS Sports' basketball schedule, as it has been for over 25 years," said Michael Aresco, senior vice president of programming for CBS Sports.
