Huskers' Douse cleared to play by NCAA

Happy yet surprised, attorney Don Jackson told CBS SportsLine.com on Friday that Nebraska signee Kris Douse has been cleared to play by the NCAA less than 24 hours after his eligibility was in serious doubt.

"It's unheard of to get a review done this quickly," Jackson said. "But we got the review, and the NCAA notified the Nebraska compliance office that this young man is going to be eligible to play."

Earlier in the week the NCAA had informed Douse by email that it was rejecting his academic credentials despite him appearing to have a satisfactory standardized test score and all required core classes. On Thursday, CBS SportsLine.com detailed the situation and Jackson's threat to seek an injunction through federal court if the NCAA didn't reconsider its position in time for Douse -- a product of Laurinburg Institute and IMG Academy -- to remain enrolled for the fall semester.

Twenty-four hours later, a review was in motion. By Friday afternoon, everything was fine.

"I think the article might have expedited the situation and forced them to look at this," Jackson said. "The young man is relieved, and he's ready to hit the court this season."

Still, new Nebraska coach Doc Sadler can't rest easy just yet. The school is still waiting to hear whether fellow prep school recruit Roburt Sallie will be certified, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
