Crimson Tide report: Notes, quotes
FINAL RECORD
Overall 17-16, 5-11 SEC, fifth place in Western Division.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
The Tide finished on an up note by going 3-3 over its last six games and beating Florida in the SEC tournament before losing by two points in overtime to division winner Mississippi State. F Richard Hendrix ended up averaging a double-double (17.6 points, 10.1 rebounds), and Mykal Riley became a deadly 3-point shooter down the stretch.
WHAT WENT WRONG
The Tide simply had too much trouble getting consistent play at point guard, and the depth never really developed. A four-game losing streak at the start of conference play put the Tide in an early hole, and it never really dug itself out.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"There is some closure now. Obviously we're excited to see Ron (Steele) coming back." -- Coach Mark Gottfried, as told to TideSports.com, after learning two of the three players that initially entered the NBA draft -- Ronald Steele and Alonzo Gee -- will return. Richard Hendrix turned pro.
