Crimson Tide report: Strategy and personnel
THE GOOD NEWS
Ronald Steele, arguably the top point guard in the conference when he was healthy, could return next season after sitting out the year recovering from surgery on his knees. Steele isn't a lock to be on the floor given his medical history, but the team said being on the court for SEC play in January is a good goal for him to strive for.
THE BAD NEWS
Richard Hendrix entered the NBA draft. Mykal Riley, who led the Tide's late surge, is definitely gone because he is a senior.
KEY RETURNEES
Preface this with a big "I-F" ... The return of Steele and Hendrix is possible, and with them the Tide should make a significant step up. Alonzo Gee also showed he can be a threat from 3-point range, though he is streaky. Yamene Coleman, a 6-9 sophomore, began to show signs he could make a significant contribution next season. G Brandon Hollinger can be more effective if he is relieved of point guard responsibilities.
ROSTER REPORT
--Richard Hendrix, who averaged a double-double for the Tide (17.8 ppg, 10.1 rpg) as a junior, has put his name in the NBA draft but won't hire an agent to allow him the option of withdrawing before the June 16 deadline.
--G Mykal Riley has scored 70 points in his last three games and gone 18-of-37 from behind the 3-point arc.
