FINAL RECORD
19-15, 8-10, seventh in Pac-10.

WHAT WENT RIGHT
Freshman guard Jerryd Bayless was dynamite. Sophomore post Jordan Hill emerged as a legitimate force in the Pac-10. The Wildcats continued to play hard for interim coach Kevin O'Neill through the entire season, despite all the turmoil.

WHAT WENT WRONG
The Wildcats finished with fewer than 20 wins for the first time in 21 seasons. Sophomore Chase Budinger, after being voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year a season earlier, was good, but not as consistently excellent as the Wildcats needed. Injuries and a lack of depth, not to mention the unsettled coaching situation, plagued the Wildcats.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Every program has to rebuild at some point." -- Graduating senior guard Jawann McClellan on the Wildcats' uncertain future.

It was a rough week for UCLA... and deservingly so, they dropped in the power rankings.

I just can't get over how bad they have looked this year. Some teams you can give the benefit of the doubt with a loss here or there (Oregon for example with their two losses), but I just can't see someon

My 2 cents.....   Please read and share whether you agree or disagree.  Thanks.

Defense-  I really like the switch from last year from a zone to a man to man defense.  We have more depth which obviously allows for a more physically demanding style of defense.  As a whole I think we look good defensively in the first half and tend to wain a little b ...(more)

A few thoughts on the new "Cats in particular order.

1)  Does Garland look just lost or what?  Early last year before the 'tude kicked in, he was one of the most athletic, aggressive guys out there.  Now he looks like a beaten puppy.

2)  They played hard, intense and stayed in on every play but their conditioning is just not there yet.  That may

Washington remains atop the PAC-10 Power Rankings, and are still followed by CAL despite a pair of losses.

It has certainly been a rough start for the PAC-10 this year. It's hard to imagine, at this point, even three teams making the NCAA Tournament. Thank goodness it i

Reports are out today that UCLA center Drew Gordon is leaving the Bruins at the semester break.
I doubt Ben Howland would give him a release if he wants to transfer to another Pac-10 school so Arizona won't be able to pick him up, but it will create a hole in UCLA's lineup, which helps the Cats' chances in conference.

91-87 in OT. Nic Wise goes for 30.
That makes the Cats 3-1 for the season. There is definitely some talent on this team and they can play the up-tempo game.
Good win for Arizona. There will be a lot of growing pains this year, but it looks like there's going to be some nice wins to go along with them.

(POLL) I know naterb is the poll guru here, but thought this might be interesting now that we've seen a small sample of this year's team in action.  How many wins will they get this year (not counting Pac10 tourney or post seaon tourney)?

By my count, they have 30 games on the schedule.

So last night was my first glimpse of the new look Cats.  I came away fairly impressed with our defensive hustle and aggressive man-to-man D.  Also, Williams is going to be a beast for us.

That being said, it was a pretty ugly game.  I am not sure how many fouls wound up being called but it seemed like nearly every possession in the second half ended in a foul call.

The Wildcats will open their season Sunday against NAU. I, for one, am totally stoked.

It seems like it has been forever since that ugly loss in the Sweet 16 to Louisville. It will be good to get an official win under our belts and literally start the new regime under Sean Miller.

I have put together a game

Before the real (i.e. college) season gets off and we ignore the NBA for a few months, I felt a post on Chase Budinger was in order.  As a Houston based Wildcat, I now have a reason to watch the Rockets.  Budinger is getting 20-25 minutes a game and raising eyebrows with his skills.  Without the pressure of being 'the man', he has fit beautifully into the Rockets scheme and ...(more)

Is like a chameleon. And not in a good way. I figure that eventually they'll become more structured and consistent but right now it's ugly out there. My guess is they're going to have a tough time against the Badgers next week.

The perimeter defense looks good right now, but the interior defense is pretty vulnerable. Horne is just about the only guy doing it well down there.

(POLL) Okay, so this isn't all inclusive of Monday, as I didn't even touch the Mauii Invitational yet. I will probably do a full preview of the Mauii instead of just a quick grab like the rest of this preview.

A lot of non-sense, fine tune your team games this weekend. But I'm really intrigued by the Oregon/Portland and Stanford/Virginia games.

What are you more interested in?

I don't think I even made it down to one contest last year. It was nice getting back into McKale, though that "ARIZONA" beneath the block "A" seems kind of redundant and the missing cactus was disturbing.

As for the team, let's just say we should all be very happy if it makes the tournament this year. Parrom was the biggest surprise for me. He's playing tough and
