GAME PREVIEW

vs. UCLA, Saturday, Feb. 14

at Arizona State, Sunday, Feb. 22

IN FOCUS
If the Wildcats want to show they're serious in the Pac-10, they must get over the hump against UCLA. Their 83-60 loss at Pauley Pavilion last month was their worst in the series since before coach Lute Olson arrived 25 years ago. Arizona lost just 68-66 to the Bruins at McKale Center last season, but has dropped eight straight in the series, a streak unmatched since losing 11 in a row through 1984.

ROSTER REPORT

--C Jordan Hill, who entered Thursday's game averaging 18.3 points and 11.5 rebounds -- one of the top candidates for Pac-10 Player of the Year -- suffered an ankle injury with 12:08 left in the first half. He came down on the foot of USC's Leonard Washington after grabbing the rebound from DeMar DeRozan's missed free throw. Hill stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes and left for the training room, but he returned to the game with 10:58 to go in the half to great applause -- and relief -- from the home crowd. He played the entire second half but wasn't 100 percent.

--F Chase Budinger, who has been determined to get to the rim more often in the past several games, scored 25 points against USC. He is averaging 22.2 in his past five games.

--Arizona, which doesn't have a head coach or a signed prospect for next season, is still recruiting through the efforts of assistant coach Reggie Geary, who figures to have the best chance of being retained after the school hires a coach after the season. Geary landed a commitment Thursday from Tremayne Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Los Angeles Southwest Community College, according to goazcats.com. Johnson can't sign yet, though, and the new coach will have to make his own evaluation.

I guess are hopes for an at-large bid are shot.  We could have survived the Washington lose, but this one is probably too much to overcome.  Unfortunately, I also think it will be very hard to win the Pac-10 tournament as well.  We have the talent and ability to win, but this conference is very evenly matched and anyone can win any game any night ...(more)

I just heard about the possibility of adding teams to the Pac-10.  I am an East Coast Cats fan and hear very little about the Pac-10.  Is this something they are close to doing?  Is this a good idea?  What would our conference schedule become?  West Coast fans help me out.  What does the future hold?

Uh oh ESPN is reporting self imposed sanctions by the Uof A basketball team. Apparently it stemmed from an AAU event. No word as to when or who it involved. At least one scholarship is to forfeited.

Let's hope for the best.

To say that was a tough loss to stomach was an understatement.  I think we played the best game possible under the restrictions the referees had put us in.  The foul trouble got to us early and hindered us from getting any rhythm on either end of the floor.  The final foul total was 29 for us to Huskies 25, so I dont have any statistics to back me up, but I thought the calls ...(more)

Looking over the scoreboard, I was trying to figure out who we needed to lose (i.e. North Carolina, etc.) to leave Arizona in a better position to make the tournament. I didn't even look at teams with double digit losses. I immediately ruled them out for consideration. I think other people doing the same thing across the country are ruling us out with our 10 losses. They put our chances of making ...(more)

12 - 9 Overall
6 - 3 Pac -10 (Tied for 1st Place)
Top 5 SOS
Top 50'ish RPI
One Signature Win

The question I pose is WHAT IF... We duplicate the second half of the Pac-10 Season and finish  6-3, plus 2-1 in the P10 Tourney

20 - 13
12 - 6 (Top 2 Pac-10 Teams)
Top 10-15 SOS
Top 40'ish RPI
Likely still one signature win

The Cats have a swagger now that they didn't have when they were laying down against SDSU and BYU. They have the experience of closing games that they didn't against Wisconsin, Vandy, UNLV and Oregon St. They have a clue offensively and defensively. But a road trip is a road trip is a road trip. It won't be easy.

Sweep and the Cats maintain first place and maybe gain a game (Cal plays

Well, Jordin Mayes only took a couple of days to decide that Point Guard U is the hottest program.  Mayes decommitted from UCLA last season & was highly recruited.  It's a great pickup for the Cats, but his decision may have influenced McCallum, Lamb, and Selby that the Cats are full (until the 2011 class with Tharpe & Turner).

I assume that Book/Miller are go

A win versus cal would mean 12-9 (6-3), but what does it really mean?

First place in the Pac - 10?

6 wins on the "4 Home 5 Away Part of the PAC-10 Schedule?

That is absolutely huge.  12-9 with a top 5 SOS would be amazing for the squad.  Not to mention the P10 losses were all winable.

Lets say that we can go 6-3 for both halves of t ...(more)

Can you believe these kids?  WOW!  Great job Cats for hanging in there in a game that the officiating was ...well lets just say it wasn't very good.  Nic awesome WILL to win.  Parrom is a beast defensively and Williams was his usual ho hum double double.  I just wish So Hill would pick it up some.
I do have to say I'm really tiring of Horne.  That kid thinks h ...(more)

My best week yet, going 7 - 2 and raising my season record to 30 - 24.  But this was NOT the week that I wanted to finally get both Arizona games right.  I had a feelng we'd lose them, but I was hoping to be wrong.  Regardless, we still control our own destiny so lets see if we can get back on track against the Oregon schools this week.

I heard Jordin Mayes (rivals #106) may have committed to AZ today. He was visiting on sun during the cal win.
Any thoughts out there from people in the know?

Back over .500 for me and my reverse psychology for Arizona is working so I will implement it again this week in hopes that it works again.  I was 6-3 for the week, bringing me to 23 - 22 overall.

Here are the games for this week:

Thursday

Arizona @ Washington 10:30pm - Is Washington back on track? Will Arizona have a let-down after the Cal wi
