For about one day, the possibility loomed that Cal would make a change in its starting lineup for the first time all season. But Jerome Randle, who bruised his hip against Oregon State, was able to play two days later against Oregon, keeping the starting five intact for the 20th straight game.

IN FOCUS
A week ago, Cal probably was thinking it would face UCLA in a battle of teams tied for first place. Instead, they are among three clubs sharing third, one game back of Washington. UCLA has beaten seven of the past eight meetings, but the Bears have enjoyed some recent success at Pauley Pavilion, winning there three times in the past nine seasons. The game matches two teams with excellent perimeter players, highlighted by the duel between UCLA senior Darren Collison and Cal junior Jerome Randle.
ROSTER REPORT
--PG Jerome Randle had 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds against Oregon State before injuring his hip with 2:49 left. He did not practice the day after, but was diagnosed as having suffered just a bruise and played against Oregon, delivering 22 points and five assists.
--Patrick Christopher had 15 points against Oregon State, then 13 against Oregon.
--F Jamal Boykin is playing a growing role for the Bears, with 15 points and 10 rebounds against OSU and 13 points and nine rebounds vs. Oregon. Over the past three games he is averaging 16.7 points per game.
