--Charlotte fired coach Bobby Lutz, the all-time wins leader at the school, on March 15. Lutz had four years remaining on his contract after signing an extension prior to last season with a base salary of $237,000. Lutz, an alumnus of the school who had previously been an assistant coach, was 218-158 in 12 seasons.

Athletics director Judy Rose said the "difficult decision" was made with the program's high expectations in mind, including competing in the NCAA Tournament on a regular basis.

19-12, 9-7, tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10.

WHAT WENT RIGHT
Forward Shamari Spears provided a much-needed inside scoring presence in his first season after transferring from Boston College, as he averaged 16.0 points while also grabbing 5.9 rebounds a game. He was a third-team pick on the all-Atlantic 10 team. Forward Chris Braswell made the conference's all-rookie team by averaging 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in his freshman season. Point guard DiJuan Harris led the conference in assists with 4.5 a game, and guard Derrio Harris, a junior college transfer, had a 13.1 scoring average.

WHAT WENT WRONG
Charlotte completely collapsed in the final month of the season, losing seven of its last eight games to drop from 18-5 to 19-12, costing it a shot at the postseason. Few things could ever go more wrong for a college basketball team than that. Guard Charles Dewhurst, who started nine games as a redshirt junior, had his plans to come back for his fourth year of eligibility in 2010-11 scuttled when the university dropped its master's program in sports management. Thus, he will finish his undergraduate degree in May and move on.
