Fightin' Blue Hens report: Strategy and personnel
G Marc Egerson transferred from Georgetown and was eligible to start the second half of the season. He was supposed to provide an immediate boost, and although he did, it wasn't quite what would be expected.
"I've been saying to people who would listen that he wouldn't come into his own until the second week in February," coach Monte Ross said. "While he'd practiced with us for a long time, in terms of game shape, game speed, he wasn't there. Now he's started to take a leadership role on the court. I'm hoping for the next month he'll step up his game. I think we'll see him come into form and become the player he's capable of becoming."
Against Hofstra, he showed what kind of player that is, as he scored 26 points. He has taken over the team scoring lead at 13.6 points a game.

IN FOCUS
Slumping Delaware reaches what is a key moment in its season. The Blue Hens are at home for three of its next four games and two of them figure to be tough victories. They play surging UNC-Wilmington Feb. 6 and host conference-leader VCU -- the best defense in the league -- Feb. 9. That should do nothing to help the Blue Hens come out of their shooting slump. The thing is, Delaware has been playing solid defense through the shooting slump, allowing only 171 points in its last three games, an average of 57 per contest.
ROSTER REPORT
--PG Brian Johnson is the engine that runs the Delaware show, leading the conference with 5.6 assists per game.
--Coach Monte Ross signed F Adam Pegg, a 6-foot-9 senior at Clearwater High in Florida, to a letter of intent for the 2008-2009 season.
--G Jawan Carter is sitting out this year due to NCAA transfer rules. The sophomore came to the Blue Hens from St. Joseph's, where he made the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team while averaging 7.6 points a game.
