Gators report: Strategy and personnel
KEY RETURNEES
Guard Anthony Roberson led the SEC in scoring and though he was entertaining thoughts of entering the NBA draft, he may want to reconsider following two miserable shooting performances in the NCAA tourney (4-of-23). Matt Walsh also returns to give the Gators a top perimeter game. Freshman forward Corey Brewer began to emerge as a star in season's stretch run, and freshman Al Horford is a fourth potential returning starter.
THE COACH
Billy Donovan has the Gators on an unprecedented run of seven consecutive NCAA appearances and the only Final Four berth in the school's history, not to mention the Gators' only SEC tournament championship. But the recent early exits -- five losses in either the first or second round of the NCAA -- has raised some questions about the Gators' toughness. He's in no danger of being fired, but as one of the country's highest-paid coaches, Donovan has got to get the Gators deeper into March. His overall record at Florida is 193-92 (88-56 SEC). Add the two years he spent at Marshall and Donovan is 228-112.
ROSTER REPORT
The Gators signed three prospects last November, all from the state of Florida. They were 6-10 forward/center Jimmy Sutton from Boca Raton, 6-5 guard David Huertas and 6-4 guard Derwin Kitchen, both of Jacksonville.
-- Senior David Lee continued his workhorse play in Florida's closing run. He scored in double figures in 11 of Florida's last 12 games, registering six double-doubles over the stretch. He finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds -- his 12th double-double of the season -- before fouling out with 3:08 left in the loss to Villanova.
