Eagles report: Notes, quotes
FINAL RECORD
10-21, 6-10, tied for eighth in Atlantic Sun.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Florida Gulf Coast ranked third in the Atlantic Sun in blocked shots and steals and fifth in 3-point shooting (34.6 percent). The Eagles were 4-1 against the three other league members going through the Division I transition process. They also limited Penn to six first-half points in a 60-30 victory on Dec. 29.
WHAT WENT WRONG
The Eagles took a physical pounding in their first season in Division I, including injuries to Terike Barrowes (knee), Roman Narmbaye (knee), Adam Liddell (eye) and Landon Adler (foot). Realistically, a winning record wasn't in the cards with 20 of their 31 games played away from home including trips to Iowa, Arizona State, DePaul and Marquette.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"For 31 games, there were no teams where you went in saying, 'Even if we don't have our best game, we have a shot to win.' So every night was very intense from that standpoint. But there's no doubt that the wear and tear took its toll on everybody." -- Florida Gulf Coast head coach Dave Balza to the Naples Daily News.
