Wildcats report: Notes, quotes
FINAL RECORD
21-12, 10-6, third in Big 12.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Not a game passed when F Michael Beasley didn't do something as a freshman to leave fans in awe. The gifted phenom set numerous Big 12 and Kansas State records, and finished with 28 double-doubles, an NCAA freshman record. He teamed with F Bill Walker to give Kansas State its most productive tandem in history, and the two carried the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 12 years as well as their highest finish in the Big 12.
WHAT WENT WRONG
Although Beasley was consistently solid and Walker was steady until a late-season swoon, the remainder of the Wildcats was wildly inconsistent. Usually, when production was lacking from other members of the squad, Kansas State lost despite whatever numbers Beasley generated. One problem was first-year coach Frank Martin had difficulty trimming his rotation and giving other players enough minutes to grow comfortable with their roles.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I have had no time at all to think about my decision [whether to turn pro]. And I'm not going to start thinking or contemplating on what I'm going to do for another couple of weeks." -- Kansas State F Michael Beasley.
