Cardinals report: Getting inside

Sometimes it comes down to luck. Enough good luck and you are a national champion. Toss in some bad luck and you fall one game short of reaching the Final Four.

So it was with a Louisville team that came into the season set to make a run at a national title, only to wind up being eliminated in the Elite Eight by the nation's No. 1 team, North Carolina.

Had not injuries to senior leaders David Padgett and Juan Palacios cost the Cardinals early victories, they might have been a No. 1 seed come tournament time, thereby eliminating a chance to face North Carolina until the Final Four.

But injuries came and with them a need for time to find exactly what made the team tick. As it was, it came on in February playing like the best team in the country and wound up being the Big East's final team standing in a disappointing NCAA for the conference.

Louisville became one of the nation's top defensive teams as coach Rick Pitino used his pressing zone defense to hold 18 teams to shooting less than 40 percent and scoring less than 60 points while pushing a fast-paced offense that was deeper than any team in the country and never let opponents catch a breath.

Forward Earl Clark became one of the nation's premier players as he began to learn how to score and Terrence Williams became one of the most versatile players in the college game.

When the 2008-09 season begins, Pitino has enough talent back that his team again will probably have a ranking among the top 10 and be considered a real contender for the national championship.

Now usually I'm not one to open my mouth about our predicted finish or pre-season ranking but I can't see more than 20 teams being better than the Cards this year.  Don't get me wrong, our squad could go out there this year and lay an egg but I see us contending for another Big East title.  I think WV and Villanova are the only two teams who clearly have more talent than the Cards but th ...(more)

The rivals network has said it looks like Tobia Harris will be committing to the Cuse on the 19th. Rumor has it that 5 star PG Josh Selby is now a syracuse lean thanks to the likes of Mr. Johnny Flynn. Apparently Flynn. Tobias and Josh are quite the twiterers. If this is true Syracuse will have a very nice class for 2010 which could include Fab, Tobias, and Josh Selby.

So what does this

Got my ESPN the Magazine College Basketball preview in the mail over the weekend, looked in it to see what they had to say about the Cards and they didn't even have them in their TOP 64.  I personally think it was an oversight because they had IU at like 51, Marquette at 64, and had other teams they have to know the Cards are better than ranked like, Northwestern and Arkansas.  Can' ...(more)

Ok guys there is a petition going around to sign and try to get Wheat's 32 in the rafters.

One player that has sadly never been recognized is DeJuan Wheat. He was a star at U of L from 1993-97, becoming the first player in NCAA Division I history to have career totals of at least 2,000 points, 450 assists, 300 three-point field goals and 200 steals. His accomplishments far surpass numbe

Like Pitino stated , this would be close throught and for the most part it was. First things first Smith, Knowles and Sosa did not show any amount of leadership early and Smiths fouls were not needed . Both Smith and Sosa fouled on 3pt shots THEY know better! Samuals played hard and took advantage of his big body inside. ITs apparent at least so far that we will be looking to go inside to him alot ...(more)

South Kent (Conn.) shooting guard Russ Smith says he plans on signing with Louisville during his Nov. 15 visit.

“I’m going to sign on my visit,” the 6-foot-2, 160-pound Smith said Friday. “We’re still working on everything officially but I did give coach Pitino my verbal.

Wouldnt it have been nice if they would have mabe they Nov 17th games a round robin! You know winner of the first two games plays and losers play! I mean come on you get 4 good solid bball programs together and all your going to do is play 2 games? I think it would be a plus for this to have been set up better. In my opinion IT would be a great measuring stick for Uofl/ Ark / Memphis to play Kansa ...(more)

Well its been almost 6 days since we got to see Uofl play its first game and tomarrow night they will battle Bellarmine. I have heard that Bellarmine is Ranked #1 in their divison so im going to guess they will be scrappy and play you 40 feet out from the rim alot like Gtown.
I dont know how much size they have but im sure they have some. IT will be enteresting to see how Smith, Sosa and Delk
