Sometimes it comes down to luck. Enough good luck and you are a national champion. Toss in some bad luck and you fall one game short of reaching the Final Four.

So it was with a Louisville team that came into the season set to make a run at a national title, only to wind up being eliminated in the Elite Eight by the nation's No. 1 team, North Carolina.

Had not injuries to senior leaders David Padgett and Juan Palacios cost the Cardinals early victories, they might have been a No. 1 seed come tournament time, thereby eliminating a chance to face North Carolina until the Final Four.

But injuries came and with them a need for time to find exactly what made the team tick. As it was, it came on in February playing like the best team in the country and wound up being the Big East's final team standing in a disappointing NCAA for the conference.

Louisville became one of the nation's top defensive teams as coach Rick Pitino used his pressing zone defense to hold 18 teams to shooting less than 40 percent and scoring less than 60 points while pushing a fast-paced offense that was deeper than any team in the country and never let opponents catch a breath.

Forward Earl Clark became one of the nation's premier players as he began to learn how to score and Terrence Williams became one of the most versatile players in the college game.

When the 2008-09 season begins, Pitino has enough talent back that his team again will probably have a ranking among the top 10 and be considered a real contender for the national championship.

In his press conference today Pitino announced that both Knowles and Siva will be out for the next couple games with hand injuries. Siva's seems to be worse. The starting lineup for the next game is Samuels, Delk, Buckles, Smith and Sosa. Marra, Kuric, Swopshire look to be the first bodies off the bench. Marra was the player sacrificed to the press today and did very well with the why can't you ...(more)

The first half was bad, the start of the second was worse but the truth is we just missed some bunnies and they got the bounce on the rim alot. It is what it is.  We should have won but that was a gutsy performance to tie the game after being down 19 in a true road game, against a team who is going to be in the top 25 next week.  I think we really missed Preston on the defensive end ...(more)

Sosa/Siva poor first half

Buckles looked good first career double double

Samuels for god sakes STOP THE FADE AWAYS AND FALLING TO THE FLOOR, DUNK THE BALL.

The outcome to the game does not suprise me. Would rather lose here than the western or UK.

Hope we have some good practices this week. Hopefully this was a learning process.

Well after 3 games in 3 day's the last game against a senior laiden App State team was our best so far this season, even Rick when ask Terry couldn't complain.  But I still think there is alot of room for improvement, especially on defensive rebounding, when we start playing the big dog's of the Big East, we need to grab that rock instead of just tipping it around.  I still say we h ...(more)

How about starting
Samuels- center - I know guys but who else is going to start, Jennings? which is a bigger disappointment.
Buckles- power forward- stronger than Swoop and WANTS to rebound!
Delk- small forward- nice shot, plays decent defense
Knowles- shooting guard
Sosa- hes doing the best he can in his last season
have swoop and jerry first off the

Surprised no one is talking about this. After the UNC-Asheville game Demarcus Cousins was being interviewed. After his remarks about UUN he walked to half court and started jumping on the Cardinal Bird laughing. What is this guys deal? He seems like a me me me type player. He has said some stupid things Cal has said he doesn't listen. Is this the worst UK recruit ever.

Last time someone

A little friendly banter to set up the L'Ville v UNLV game on the 28th in Vegas.  How's it looking for the Cards so far?  From what I have been reading on your boards, you guys are doing similar things; starting slow, heavy change-ups on rotation, no real rhythm due to head coach tinkering being so early in the season, etc.  I'll tell you, most UNLV fans are surprised at the athleti ...(more)

First off I want to say I don't think I have ever been more mad! Mike Marra in my opinion is terrible he cant hit a three he can't score his defense is ok. Samardo Samuels is so soft it's amazing he will get ate up in the big east. Sosa is the best player him and buckles seemed to connect perfectly. Jerry Smith something has happened to him his defense and energy is still there but something has c ...(more)

I see some of the big east fans are saying that the SEC is a weak conference,  but lets look at it this way.  first let me say that im not here to trash anybody i'm just looking for good honest reasonable opinions on this.

If they just happened to move teams like:

1.ST JOHNS

2. SETON HALL

3. SOUTH FLORIDA

4.PROVIDENCE

I understand that Jerry is a Senior and is a team captain, but is it time to pull the trigger and start Delk and play Marra more? I'm not bashing Jerry. That's not my point. To be honest I'm pulling for Jerry to do great things. So I'm just wondering what everyone else was thinking.

I know it's a weird thought, but watching Swop play, he reminds me of Earl Clark, except with more consistency.

Last year, when Swop came into the game, I would roll my eyes. The guy was small and soft, and not very productive, He was a freshman, but still, I just didn't see anything good about him. Now, he's one of my favorite players. The guy really worked hard in the off season. He's ...(more)

The University of Louisville men's basketball team has just one signee in the Class of 2010 and coach Rick Pitino said the Cardinals might be finished recruiting. Talking about signee Russ Smith of South Kent (Conn.) Prep School on Friday, Pitino said they Cardinals will look to add one more recruit but noted "we may not take another player." Louisville already has three commitments - Michael Chan ...(more)

I'm not a Tiger Woods fan, and it has nothing to do with the race card.  I've just never really cared for him.  I wish him no harm and I hope he gets through this accident with his family intact.  However,  do not be surprised if we are in the mist of a huge cover-up that may turn ugly.  Perhaps the only good that will come out of all this, is that some of us will be LESS ...(more)

We only won by 9, we should have blown this team out. But unlike Sat we played alot harder.Right now Rick is running alot of subs, most likely by the time we play WKU well will see a solid rotation of 9 players. Its Clear that T.J is starting to come around by the time we get to Rupp. You got to admit Samuels looked good. Even though hes not spectacular he still manages to contribute a lot! One pr ...(more)
