Terrapins report: Notes, quotes
FINAL RECORD
19-15, 8-8 ACC, tied for fifth
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Even as a sophomore, Greivis Vasquez grew into the role of floor leader and Maryland seemed to take off in mid-January, winning six of eight. The Terps were in a number of games down the stretch, but ran out of gas and blew too many double-digit leads.
WHAT WENT WRONG
Blame it on the conditioning, speed, strength or all of the above. Maryland blew double-digit leads four times late in the year, closing the season by losing six of eight entering the NIT. It's fairly simple -- for Maryland to compete in the ACC, it must learn how to close out games. Perhaps conditioning has something to do with that.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We just couldn't play 40 minutes the last three weeks of the season. ... I never remember losing leads like that." -- Coach Gary Williams, on the late-season swoon that cost the Terps a place in the NCAA Tournament and ultimately tarnished the season.
