Bulldogs report: Getting inside
For all that has been associated with Renardo Sidney's name this past year, it seems to be ending on a high note. Sidney scored 22 points in the Bulldogs' 87-81 loss to Vanderbilt in a SEC Tournament quarterfinal.
Look past, for a minute, that Mississippi State's season is ending on a low note. The Bulldogs failed to advance to a semifinal of a SEC Tournament for the first time since any of the current players were on the roster.
Sidney, a sophomore, overcame foul trouble that limited him to two first-half minutes. He was 10-for-16 from the floor, including two 3-pointers, and had seven rebounds.
Sidney told The Clarion-Ledger after the game that he will evaluate his future after the season and decide whether he will come back to the Bulldogs. Assuming he does, his end-of-season play has been promising for Mississippi State and its veteran coach, Rick Stansbury.
Sidney still has work to do on his conditioning, but his talent, as evidenced by his play against Vanderbilt, is beyond question.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Mississippi State suffered in the pre-conference schedule for a number of reasons, not the least of which was a lack of rebounding. But the Bulldogs, thanks in large part to the play of Sidney, Wendell Lewis and Kodi Augustus, have fixed that. Against Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs outrebounded their opponent 35-25.
