Oklahoma talked a good game before playing Louisville, then got off to a decent start when guard David Godbold hit three 3-pointers at the outset.

But the Sooners, after noting how an upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament could shape the program under second-year coach Jeff Capel, suffered a 78-48 loss and finished 23-12.

"Getting to the Sweet 16 is big-time for any program, but I think it would be magnified for this program," said Taylor Griffin, a junior forward. "We're kind of coming back into our own after all the stuff that's happened over the years."

A complete comeback will require some additional time. The stuff Griffin alluded to was the NCAA sanctions levied against Oklahoma for illegal phone calls to recruits made by former coach Kelvin Sampson, who also couldn't keep his fingers from doing the walking at Indiana.

Jeff Capel was left to pick up the pieces at Oklahoma and did a nice job in his second season, guiding the Sooners to a fourth-place finish in the Big 12 as they garnered the No. 6 seed in the East Region.

An extended run, however, required a second-round upset, and the Sooners weren't up to that challenge, falling behind Lousville by 20 at halftime. With the departure of Godbold and center Longar Longar, the Sooners must replace two starters, though Capel has demonstrated some savvy on the recruiting trail, especially after landing home-state standout Blake Griffin, the younger brother of Taylor.

The NBA, however, could beckon for Griffin, who injured both knees during the season but was still an All-Big 12 pick capable of taking over games with his toughness underneath.

Assuming Blake goes and Willie stays, what do you think the lineup will look like next year?

Juan Patillo has been dismissed from the OKlahoma basketball team for an undisclosed violation.  Does anybody have any clue what this could be about?  Jeff Caple has said he will not comment on the dismissal.

My condolences to the Sooner nation.  He was one of the greatest college basketball players ever!!  Good NBA'er, awesome jazz musician, and just a class act.  Even a Longhorn can appreciate a great human being.

Congratulations to Blake Griffin for being honored as the Player of the Year.   It was a well deserved recognition of your abilities, efforts, and contributions to a phenominal year for the Oklahoma Sooners.

I have to admit I was somewhat mystified by the fact that this was not a unanimous selection.   Five individiuals are either die hard homers incapable of voting ...(more)

It's on ESPN right now that Jeff Capel will became the new head coach of Arizona in a few days from now. Of course I would have picked Mark Few as my new head coach of UA but all in all Capel will do fine job too. Sorry to hear that you Oklahoma fans have to look for a new head coach now.

I notice how you are all silent here...WE ended your undefeated conference streak. WE played better. WE have a better balance of players top to bottom. WE don't rely on ONE player to run the show. WE don't have that ONE player to be seen in the spotlight, but really is just an overrated little prick. What we DO have is the bragging rights of putting that 'tard out for the remainder of the game ...(more)

Congratulations to North Carolina.  Your back court certainly outplayed the Sooners this game.   I had a feeling that things were not going to go OU's way despite the quick foul on Hansborough.  When those first couple of three point shots clanged I could tell that the Sooner guards just flat out did not have it.   Then later there were SEVERAL instances where OU's guards ha ...(more)

They played a great game against Syracuse last night..

couple of things:

1)  OU's backcourt came out focused and they did a great job of closing down space on the perimeter.  Not to mention the offensive push they provided

2)  OU really capitalized on SU's turnovers...overall the total turnover numbers were similar, but OU created better shots off SU ...(more)

Lets hear the excuses OU fans.  I know, you guys have a higher average attendance for home games, so you think you should be given that victory.

Blake Griffen averages 20 plus point a game, it does not matter he left with injury, we should be given those points because we are Oklahoma. so that means we win.

Texas only averages beating the ...(more)

I would just like to take a moment to thank Blake & Taylor Griffin for a wonderful stretch of basketball at the University of Oklahoma.  The class and sportsmanship these two fine young men displayed was a breath of fresh air in a sports world of trash-talking chest-thumping Neanderthals.   I realize that it is a disappointment for this squad and all OU fans that their reign ...(more)

Okay, so what's with Blake Griffin acting like he's hurt on multiple occasions down the stretch of this Cuse game?  There was an earlier one that I thought looked pretty weak, and then after he goes up for a dunk late in the game he randomly grabs his face like he hurt himself.  They showed a replay several times and he was no where close to the rim, backboard, or even net.  You' ...(more)

Just wanted to congratulate the Sooners on an outstanding game.  Living on the east coast I've had very limited exposure to the Sooners until last night.  Griffin a very special talent!  I was even more impressed with his business like approach. (none of the usual star antics, such as dancing ect.)  These two teams really match up well.  Griffin vs. ...(more)
