Sooners report: Notes, quotes
FINAL RECORD
23-12, 9-7, fourth in Big 12.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Oklahoma overcame a thin lineup to wage a competitive run that included marquee non-conference victories against Arkansas, Gonzaga and West Virginia on successive dates, as well as a fourth-place run through the Big 12. The Sooners continued to buy into the defensive principles second-year coach Jeff Capel demands, at least until the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were routed by Louisville.
WHAT WENT WRONG
Injuries plagued Oklahoma's top two big men, F Blake Griffin and C Longar Longar, while the play of the Sooners' guards was spotty. Oklahoma could not develop a consistent outside threat and when opponents successfully collapsed on Griffin and Longar, offensive production often suffered. In its defeats, Oklahoma shot 37 percent from the field and 26 percent from 3-point range. The Sooners didn't shoot 50 percent in back-to-back games since early January.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"The strength of our team has always been the big guys inside." -- Oklahoma G David Godbold.
