Panthers report: Getting inside
Despite losing its first game at the Big East tournament, Pitt remains in good shape for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers won the Big East regular-season championship and their four losses in conference play came by a total of 11 points, including a two point loss to Connecticut on Thursday when Connecticut star Kemba Walker nailed a buzzer beater to send the Panthers back to Pittsburgh to await their NCAA fate.
There are a couple of scenarios where the Panthers could be knocked off the No. 1 seed line. If Notre Dame wins the Big East tournament the Irish are likely to grab a No. 1 seed. And if Duke wins the ACC tournament the Blue Devils could get in position to claim another No. 1 seed. BYU remains a dark horse for a No. 1 seed as well.
But given the NCAA selection committee's commitment to looking at a team's overall body of work it seems unlikey the Panthers will be penalized for losing to a ranked team at the buzzer in the conference tournament.
