Saints report: Notes, quotes
--Siena comes into the NCAA Tournament with an interesting tournament past. The Saints were a No. 14 seed when they stunned No. 3 Stanford in 1989. In the 2002 tournament, Siena became only the second team with a losing record ever to win a tourney game, beating Alcorn State in the play-in game.
--The Saints beat 2008 NCAA Tournament teams Stanford and Boise State this season, losing to entrants Memphis, Cornell and Saint Joseph's.
--This is Siena's fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
--The Saints came from 17 points down to beat Loyola in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament, then routed Rider.
COACH
Fran McCaffery, third year at the school, first year in NCAA Tournament.
LAST POSTSEASON APPEARANCE
Siena lost to Alabama-Birmingham, 80-71, in the third round of the 2003 NIT, beating Villanova and Western Michigan in the first two rounds, with all three games played in Albany.
THEY'LL ADVANCE IF: They play as well as they can play. The 4-13 matchup can be one of those sticky ones and Siena could go out there and surprise the SEC opponent. The Saints held Rider to 53 points in the MAAC title game, but Siena wasn't a great defensive team through the season and needs to crank up the "D" against a quality opponent.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"We want to go into the tournament and prove to people that we can play with the best teams in the country. We just got to go out there and have that mentality that we belong here." --Siena forward Edwin Ubiles looking toward the NCAA Tournament.
