Hokies report: Strategy and personnel

Getting inside · Strategy and personnel · Notes, quotes

POSTSEASON OUTLOOK
If Tech does make it to the NCAA Tournament, it will likely be as one of the last four at-large teams, meaning it will have to play on Tuesday or Wednesday in the First Four at Dayton. Possible opponents include USC, Georgia, Colorado and/or Michigan State. If the Hokies fall short again, they will play in the NIT and likely be a No. 1 seed, meaning they would play at home on Tuesday or Wednesday night.

FUTURES MARKET
F C.J. Barksdale is part of the best recruiting class in coach Seth Greenberg's eight seasons. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Barksdale is playing this year at Hargrave Military Academy after averaging 19 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for George Washington High School in Danville, Va., last year. Barksdale's versatility and long arms will make him a tough matchup on both ends of the floor.

PLAYER NOTES

--Senior G Malcolm Delaney, who recently moved past Dale Solomon for third place on the school's all-time scoring list, tallied his 2,200th point in the first half against Duke. Delaney finished with a team-high 19 points but made just 4-of-14 shots.

--Senior F Jeff Allen again got into foul trouble early and ended up fouling out with 6:29 left on his third offensive foul of the day against Duke. Allen played just 26 minutes and was only 1-for-7 from the field, finishing with two points.

--Freshman F Jarell Eddie didn't play at Clemson due to a team disciplinary matter, according to coach Seth Greenberg. Eddie missed a Feb. 19 loss at Virginia for the same reason after being cited for marijuana possession Feb. 15.

--Senior F Prince Parker (broken foot) was injured while dunking in practice Feb. 28 and won't be available for the season's remainder. Parker rarely played, but the former football tight end was a valuable practice player at 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds.
