Now that the regular season and the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament are over, the Hokies will turn their attention to a game they haven't won in four years -- the waiting game.

Following Saturday's 77-63 loss to Duke in the ACC tourney semifinals, Virginia Tech players and coaches talked like a team expecting to hear bad news Sunday night when the NCAA Tournament selection committee picks at-large teams.

"I'm not going to bed thinking we're in," senior guard Malcolm Delaney said. "I'm going to think the worst and hopefully we'll come out with the best tomorrow."

The arguments for the Hokies work something like this: They did produce a late-season win over Duke and two wins over Florida State, including Friday night's dramatic 52-51 ACC quarterfinal decision, and a December non-conference decision over a Penn State team, which is now believed to be in the field of 68 after its run to the Big Ten championship game.

On the other hand, Tech's resume doesn't contain much non-conference meat. Every significant non-conference game it played, it lost. There were also two bad losses to a mediocre Virginia team and the Hokies also were swept in the season series by a Boston College team with a similar profile. It all adds up to another fretful Selection Sunday for this program.
