Huskies report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Getting inside · Strategy and personnel

--UW had been 0-6 in games decided by five points or fewer heading into the Pac-10 Tournament, but beat Washington State and Arizona each by two points, each in games in which they had to rally from early deficits. Maybe the odds simply have turned for the Huskies, or maybe they have simply gotten a little better at finishing games.

UW, however, has struggled at times from the free throw line and that will be a key in the NCAA Tournament. UW made just 8-14 free throws against Arizona.

--It doesn't figure to be possible for UW to make a real deep run with senior Justin Holiday continuing to struggle. For the second time in four games, Holiday was shut out against Arizona, going 0-3 from the field and not getting to the free throw line in 31 minutes, though he did add seven rebounds. His production, however, was made up for by the emergence of Ross and fellow freshman C.J. Wilcox, the latter of whom had 39 points in the three tourney games.

--UW is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance under Lorenzo Romar, all since 2004. UW has won at least one game in four of the previous five, with three Sweet 16 appearances.

BY THE NUMBERS
18 -- Points totaled by senior F Matthew Bryan-Amaning in games vs. UCLA and USC after he'd averaged 21 in four previous games.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"This is the end of the year, we should be playing at a high level every time we step on the floor. Usually at the end of the year, we're playing pretty consistent basketball. This year we haven't as much." -- Washington coach Lorenzo Romar.
