Mountaineers report: Notes, quotes
--WVU's loss to Marquette ended a string of three straight years reaching the Big East semifinals.
--Bob Huggins in the first WVU coach to win 20 games in each of his first four seasons and has 25 20-victory seasons in a 29-year career.
--G Joe Mazzulla has been part of 104 victories, second in school history, and could pass the leader, Da'Sean Butler, who played in 107 victories with a run in the NCAA Tournament.
--G Truck Bryant scored 10 points against Marquette and goes into the NCAAs needing just three points to reach 1,000 for his career.
--F Kevin Jones was named honorable mention All-Big East after averaging 13.1 points a game and 7.4 rebounds.
--F John Flowers blocked six shots in the season-closing victory over Louisville to finish the regular season with 73 blocked shots. Flowers was second in the conference to Syracuse's Rick Jackson with 2.4 blocks per game.
--G Joe Mazzulla finished the regular season ranking second in assist-to-turnover ratio to Notre Dame freshman Eric Atkins with a 2.5 ratio.
--The Mountaineers were the best in the Big East at defending the 3-point shot, allowing only .288 to be made. They were the only team in the Big East to hold its opponents to less than 30 percent. The Mountaineers ranked fourth in the nation in this department at season's end.
BY THE NUMBERS
100 -- The number of victories Coach Bob Huggins had as a Mountaineer coach following the 72-70 victory over Louisville in the regular-season finale. Huggins did it in 140 games, fastest in history.
