Though they finished the regular season just two games above .500 overall, Cal State Northridge captured the Big West title outright for the first time in school history with an 11-5 conference record. The Matadors then defeated Pacific in OT to claim their first Big West tournament title and second NCAA tournament appearance. Their first and only other tourney berth came in 2001 as a member of the Big Sky.
