For the first time since 2005, Davidson will not represent the Southern Conference in the NCAA tournament. Chattanooga, which had the luxury of playing on its home court as tournament host, claimed the conference's automatic bid for their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2005 and 10th overall. The Mocs, who had finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-16, took down the College of Charleston, which had defeated Stephen Curry and the Wildcats in the semifinals.
Despite a stellar 26-7 record, an at-large invite isn't likely forthcoming for Davidson, the darlings of last year's NCAA tournament as Curry became a national sensation. Its RPI ranks in the 70s, its SOS stands in the 160s and it managed only one win vs. a team in the RPI top 100 (West Virginia). The Wildcats lost three times to teams outside the RPI top 100 and lost four of their last 10 games, including twice to the College of Charleston.
