Kansas freshman Zach Peters leaving program for health reasons
Kansas freshman forward Zach Peters is leaving the program because of health reasons, coach Bill Self said on Monday night after KU's 70-57 win against San Jose State.
Self was considering red-shirting Peters this season because of a shoulder injury that had forced him to miss the beginning of the season. Apparently, Peters was also held out because of multiple concussions.
Peters reportedly has had four concussions since his senior year in high school, including two at KU.
"Zach and I met today after he went home to meet with his family, and he has informed us that he will be leaving the basketball program effective at the end of the semester," Self said via the Lawrence Journal-World. "Zach has labored with health issues since he has been here. His shoulder has improved, but he's also been dealing with multiple concussions that have become a big source of frustration and concern for him."
Peters, a 6-9 forward, played both football and basketball at Prestonwood Christian in Plano, Texas. He was a high school teammate of top prospect Julius Randle, who KU is recruiting. Self said that Peters would leave the program after the fall semester.
