A-back Smith recovering from surgery

Junior A-back Orwin Smith, who averaged 10.1 yards per carry and scored 12 TDs last season, underwent surgery a month ago for turf toe and won't participate in spring practice. With A-backs Roddy Jones and Embry Peeples graduating, Smith noted “it's going to be wide open for the guys who want to prove themselves.”
