Big East Notebook: Rutgers QB Gary Nova excited, Dodd not so much
Rutgers coach Kyle Flood announced Monday morning that sophomore Gary Nova would be his starting quarterback, not junior Chas Dodd.
“I didn't know what the decision was, but I knew obviously that's what (being summoned to Flood's office) was for. And I was just really excited for this opportunity," Nova told the Star-Ledger. "It's a nice moment to hear that I'm the starter, but now the real hard work starts for the season.”
Dodd, on the other hand, isn't as excited.
“I was disappointed. Who wouldn't be?” Dodd told the paper. “I'm just going to embrace my role and wait until my number is called and make sure that I'm ready if it is.”

USF QB wants to finish strong: Bulls senior quarterback B.J. Daniels has 33 starts under his belt, but he hopes to finish on a high note in his last season. And how is he looking at it? "It means I've got to hurry up and do something," Daniels told the Tampa Bay Times. "It's my last opportunity to help out the team, to do whatever we can to win the Big East."
UConn gets a safety back: On Saturday, Connecticut coach Paul Pasqualoni announced that backup safety Gilbert St. Louis was transferring. But he apparently had a change of heart as St. Louis is now back with the team. The 5-foot-11 junior from Davie, Fla., had two tackles last season in seven games.
Frosh OL leaves Syracuse: Offensive lineman Ben Barrett has left the Orange. He did not accompany the team to Fort Drum and was late for the first week of preseason practice. "Ben came in to speak to me. He has other interests that he's pursuing. We're going to do whatever we can to help him," coach Doug Marrone told Syracuse.com. "If Ben would like to continue to play, we'd love to welcome him back."
