Preview: Wake Forest Demon Deacons at No. 5 Florida State Seminoles
Wake Forest (2-0, 1-0 ACC) at No. 5 Florida State (2-0, 0-0 ACC)
Kickoff: Saturday, Noon ET (ESPN)
Spread: Florida State by 28
Watchability: It's the first real test of the year for Florida State. Wake Forest beat the Seminoles last year and has won four of the past six games. Definitely one to watch.
Shining stars: Wake Forest: DE Hasan Hazime was the ACC defensive lineman of the week. In his first career start against North Carolina, he had five tackles, a sack, two pass break ups and a forced fumble. Florida State: QB EJ Manuel had his first career start against Wake Forest in 2009. Nineteen starts later, the Demon Deacons will be the only team that he faces in all four years as a starter for the Seminoles. Manuel is 36 for 57 for 547 yards and four TDs against Wake in his career. CBSSports.com's Chip Patterson reports that the Seminoles have only used 3 percent of their playbook this season (:45 mark of the video above), so Manuel should be ready to take center stage Saturday.
Who could steal the show: Wake Forest: WR Brandon Terry had four catches for 84 yards last week and has 125 yards for the season. With teams focusing on standout WR Michael Campanaro, Terry will need to continue to produce. Florida State: Senior RB Chris Thompson broke a bone in his back in last season's game against Wake Forest. Healthy again, he scored his first TD of the year last week against Savannah State. He's fifth in Florida State history in yards per rush.
You going? Ranking the road trip: More than 80,000 fans will be doing the Seminole war chant when Chief Osceola rides Renegade out to plant a flaming spear at the center of the field. Last year, EA Sports named it the best tradition in college football, and it's hard to argue.
Magic number for Wake Forest: 47. The Demon Deacons are 1-50 against top-10 teams all-time and have lost 47 straight since a 1946 win over No. 4 Tennessee. They're also 1-31 against top-5 teams and have lost 30 straight.
Magic number for Florida State: 19. The Seminoles have held 10 straight opponents to 19 points or fewer, the longest streak in the ACC since 1998, when the Seminoles also did it 10 games in a row.
The game comes down to: Florida State's depth on defense against a Wake offense that looked good last week against North Carolina but has battled injuries since the start of preseason practice.
Prediction: Florida State 33, Wake Forest 10
